Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah part 2
yes!! its true! saw the big update at Carlo Vergara's blog that the Zsa Zsa komiks sequel will be available online. I was informed last year about the sequel of Zsa Zssa Zaturnnah, but I didn't know that Carlo plans to release the komiks in digital format. Carlo said that the sequel was done upon many request by comics fans and also a future movie again, (maybe). But the good news is that Carlo is back again in making komiks and I smell in the new future that the sequel might be available in print (I hope).

Trese sold out in some bookstore.
--
Last Wednesday, my friend texted that she got a copy
of TRESE at National Bookstore, Greenbelt. I went
there Thursday and it was already sold out. :-)
I asked the lady at Customer Service if she could
check the nearest branch. So, she called up Glorietta
and they were already sold out as well.
It might take them a week before they could restock
again.
Visprint is in the process of delivering to the other
stores.
Comic Quest and Comic Odyssey MIGHT get their copies
this weekend. So, if you’re a regular buyer there,
then tell them to already reserve you a copy.
If it will be more convenient for you to go to a
branch of National Bookstore, Powerbooks, Fully
Booked, and Pandayan Bookstore, then I highly suggest
that you call them up / email them and ask them to
reserve a copy for you.
Below are the contact info of the said bookstores:

Philip Tan signs exclusive contract with DC comics
undisclosed.
“This is really about the interest and support DC has shown to me, and how passionate Dan DiDio has been
toward the plans he has for me working with DC Comics,” Tan told Newsarama. “And I really appreciate
that overall. It's one of those things where we talk about the long-term goals for myself and DC, and they
have a real interest in finding the right type of work for me and the projects that will best showcase my
talents. Plus, everyone at DC has been really, really cool welcoming me.”
For Tan, the move to DC is one of finally being able to work on some of his favorite characters. “I grew up
on DC characters and have read them throughout my career, but I never got the chance to work on them
before this,” Tan said. “So this is a great opportunity for me to work on the characters.”
And while the artist is named as one of the handful of pencilers who will be working on May’s DC Universe #0, Tan played coy about his immediate future at DC.
“There are some big things happening in the next year at DC. And I'm very excited to be a part of that. The
project I'm working on really is one of the biggest of my career. I'm more excited than anyone else to
announce this project. Unfortunately, I can't talk about it yet. But now, at least I get to tell people
it's something really cool for DC Comics.”

Angel Locsin as Varga
Word is going around that Angel Locsin will play Varga, the first Darna at the Kapamilya network. As most of us know, she previously portrayed the role of Darna during her stay at channel 7 which was said to be one of the best komiks tv series of the network.
Mars Ravelo created “Varga” in Bulaklak Magazine in year 1947, month of July. Varga was actually the first Darna since Mr. Ravelo created it three years before the much renowned “Darna” that was aired at the Kapuso network. The author actually remade the komiks because he left his previous employ (B. M.) and was hired at Ace Publications where he reintroduced Varga to the public as Darna.

Secret Invasion and Leinil Yu at Druid's Keep
Tim (left) shows an autographed comics by Leinil Yu (right)
This is what happens when I'm into a Skrull mode. Tim shares his experience and took photo at the store visit and autograph signing by Leinil Yu to Druid's Keep customers for the Secret Invasion issue 1 release.
Secret Invasion in itself is a great start to what looks to be a promising series. While the art is definitely looking good this time around, the story itself worried me for a moment. I finally read the issue in its entirety and, to my surprise, it's not as bad as I thought and going smoothly as planned by writer Brian Michael Bendis, who sowed the seeds of this event since the very 1st issue of New Avengers a few years back! Honestly, I think the Skrulls are a convenient way of explaining the mishaps happening in the Marvel Universe now after the fallout of their last crossover Civil War, but I must say that the execution here is excellent and makes a lot of sense on some angles. It's too early to say what's going to happen and what the reprecussions will be, but now the MU's about to experience another wild ride for their part.
more of the blog post and photo at Tim's blog at Marvelous Long Weekend!
Tropa#2 review
My greatest fear about this book is that the art would suck because we get a different artist on every page. I am happy to report that that is not the case.
but check out this review from the blog of jtmtzrwj

Komiks from the heart - Inquirer.net
Marlet D. Salazar
Philippine Daily Inquirer
MANILA, Philippines—Comic books and magazines may be huge commercial successes overseas, but in the Philippines, the komiks trade has yet to keep up with the pace.
One man is determined to turn the situation around with his passion, love and deep concern for Pinoy komiks.
As part of writer and illustrator Gilbert Monsanto’s efforts to try to infuse new life into the local comic book industry, he published “Rambol” and “Tropa” two years ago under his own Sacred Mountain (the English translation of his surname) Publications.
“Every issue of a comic book has an underlying message,” Monsanto explained. “For the first issue of ‘Rambol,’ I wanted people to realize that it is possible to come up with quality comic books because we have the talent, ability and will to make things happen.”
“Tropa,” which tells the story of a gang of childhood friends endowed with superpowers, is a collaboration among Monsanto and several other artists. The five characters, according to Monsanto, were drawn by five different illustrators. “The message here, obviously, is that we can come together as one,” he said.
“Rambol,” on the other hand, is a mixed bag in a flip book format. “It has two covers and two stories, ‘Metropolitan,’ and ‘Alagad’,” explained the artist who was once art director of the locally published Mango Comics’ revival of Darna, the Pinoy’s own Wonder Woman. “I want to show how good Filipino artists and writers are.”
To make the comics affordable—and more important, accessible to everyone—he opted to have black and white pages preceded by full-color frames.

Komiks: Ready for a comeback? - Vic Poblete article in Manila Bulletin
image courtesy of Mr. Randy Valiente
article written by: Therese J. Camet, for Manila Bulletin
If kilometric literary pieces bore the heck out of the students, perhaps comics can do the trick to get them back into the reading habit.
After all, reading was nearly everybody’s favorite pastime back in the days when life was still simple and not yet dictated by modern technology.
A forgotten reading material that kept people entertained and occupied during their dull moments, Filipino komiks were once again introduced to the students of De La Salle University Dasmariñas when the school mounted a two-week comic exhibit.
Dubbed "Buhay Komiks," the exhibit mounted at the school’s library featured the works of Pinoy komiks legend Vic Poblete.
One of his best works was the "Devil Car," which won as the Best Fantasy Novel in KOMOPEB Awards in 1985.

Secret Invasion issue 1 - World Premiere
I thought that the comics will be available on a Saturday, and I'm glad that I went to Filbars SM MOA last Monday to ask when will the Secret Invasion issue 1 will come out in our local store, and the world premiere of the release of the comics is on April 2, our local comic store went on a great schedule releasing on April 3. So I went back to Filbars awhile ago to check if the issue 1 is available and lucky me they still got one copy left, its the nearest mall and comic store for me here in Cavite, so when I arrived home, I read it immediately and was too shock to talk on what I saw here. And I got a variant blank cover for issue 1 - hmmm hope I can get a Leinil Yu sketch for this cover :) wink wink
Its a lot more bigger than the Civil War series, a lot of scary revelations occur for Issue 1 and its a big explosive premiere for Secret Invasion. I won't post any stories for issue 1, but I'll just post some panels for a teaser to everyone. You wont be spoiled here, promise.

Private Iris (Jamie Bautista & Arnold Arre)
--
FROM : http://community.livejournal.com/castcomic/
------------------------------
--------------------
Sir Jamie discussed a comic book on Jam 88.3's Shelve
It, then went on to announce one of the several
reasons why Cast is taking so long.
Jamie Bautista and Arnold Arre will soon be launching
Private Iris, a children's comic series. By his
description, Iris is the smart but shy girl detective
of the series, with a sidekick who has more
personality than she does! Think Mulder and Scully's
dynamics for kids, or a local version of Disney's
Filmore. It's bound to be smart and really cool.
This series and Cast 12 will very likely come in close
succession over the coming months.
BTW Sir Jamie will make another appearance on Shelve
It when it airs in the last Thursday of April, he said
so. He will probably make a few announcements then.

Another komiks news from the hot hot hot hot sun
Fresh Buko juice! Is a good drink to beat the hot summer (not a shamless plug)
Time to write an original content for this blog, as you see that I'm a little bit lazy in writing news for this blog, my work and other extra activities are blocking me and makes me blog for a short while here at Komiks News Now. I'm very happy that this blog is already been recognized from other part of the country like in the U.S.A. and Singapore, well I just browsed some facts about this blog and I'm glad that they consider this as a source for Philippine Komiks news.
Thanks to everyone who reads, comments and submit news for Komiks News Now Philippines. Although that I have a lot of plans for this blog, like moving to a new domain or transfering to a new hosting ground, but I'm still worried for all of the post in our archives and its hard to organize a lot of files and also old news. I don't want some articles or news being be buried here, just dig it and read it.
Barbargsa komiks
After we release the news about the komiks in Mindanao being produced by the US army, from this day I haven't seen any images or people blog about it if ever they receive a copy of this komiks, Im still waiting for a copy and I think I might investigate and ask some officials if they really published a thousand copies of Barbargsa, even in the internet I saw some blog post and forum comments asking for a copy and they are willing to buy one.
Pinoy Komiks Award
Every event like my ToyCon, we have this award to Pinoy artist every year and we give an apperciation award or something from our friends who requested to mention and give a big tribute for their big contribution in our art, comics, movies and pop culture industry. It all began when Tony Velasquez was given an award by Dennis Villegas and other people who love and consider Tony Velasquez as one of the first and father of Pinoy komiks at my event ToyCon 2004 ( I think), and followed by an award we gave to Alfredo Alcala Sr. and last year to Floro Dery. Last year it was a totally different award, because the first award given to Tony Velasquez and to Alfredo Alcala Sr. are posthumous award, while to Floro Dery is an appreciation award for his contribution and work for Transformers, Also the same year 501st Legion and George Lucas gave an award to Alfredo Alcala Sr. for his big contribution for the world of Star Wars.
For 2008, we already have a candidate for an award, and our clue is this is a posthumous award.
(Ding! hagis mo ang bato dali! )
Komiks gone wild
Im seeing a good development in our local newstand komiks and I heard that it sells well to the masses. that includes me! hahahah. Been buying these Lovenotes and Caparas Komiks and I enjoy their revamp for having it in colored format. Although that in the Caparas Komiks made a short change in some interior art, but it doesnt matter, Im still entertained and will go for more. I enjoy the Lovenotes komiks, Mr. Joe d mango is funny to see in a cartoon or illustrated form. I'm happy to see that instead of looking at his photo and face in every other pages ahhahaha. Nice art for Lovenotes.
i haven't grab the new MMK or Maalala mo kaya komiks, no copies been delivered here in Bacoor, Cavite and check it out! I'll post soon a photo of a news stand vendor here in our place that specialize in komiks selling only. isn't that cool ?
And last news, i heard that the komiks we are expecting to be released last February is now turning to be shelved already.
Just heard the news and no confirmation yet from the project leader, heard that the suppose to be-publisher will be running the pages, but I think they hold it till they got a good deal under a new management. hmmmm???
thats our new content for this week, I'm going to hit the mall and enjoy some free aircon! wohohohohh
The Marvelous Adventures of the Amazing Dr. Rizal
from this komiks, I'm now expecting new and cool terms that will be derived under the man called "Rizal"
The ATOM - pencil art by Romeo Tanghal Sr.
The art below will be our feature art of the week.
